The TWIST Data Acquisition System at Triumf

چکیده
The TRIUMF Weak Interaction Symmetry Test (TWIST) is an experiment to measure precisely the Michel parameters describing the energy and angular dependence of positrons emitted from the decay of polarized positive muons. The detector consists of a 2 Tesla superconducting solenoid containing 56 planar chambers for high precision tracking of the positrons through readout of some 4200 multihit TDC channels. Being a high precision, high statistics experiment, control and monitoring of the beam and ambient conditions had to be closely integrated into the data acquisition system. A successful data run in 2002 produced more than 6 Giga events expected to yield some first physics results. This paper will describe the details and performance of the DAQ system including slow controls and online monitoring techniques.

Muon Decay Parameters (TWIST experiment at TRIUMF)
The TRIUMF Weak Interaction Symmetry Test (TWIST) experiment has measured the spectrum of positrons from muon decay and determined the decay parameters: ρ = 0.75014 ± 0.00017(stat.) ± 0.00044(syst.) ± 0.00011(η), δ = 0.75067 ± 0.00030(stat.) ± 0.00067(syst.), P π µ ξ = 1.0003 ± 0.0006(stat.) ± 0.0038(syst.). The results are in good agreement with the Standard Model. Future prospects for this me...

متن کاملTime expansion chamber for characterization of TWIST low energy muon beams
A low mass time expansion chamber (TEC) has been developed to measure distributions of position and angle of the TRIUMF low energy surface muon beam used for the TWIST experiment. The experiment is a high precision measurement of muon decay and is dominated by systematic uncertainties, including the stability, reproducibility, and characterization of the beam. The distributions measured by the ...

متن کاملCompensation of Doppler Effect in Direct Acquisition of Global Positioning System using Segmented Zero Padding
Because of the very high chip rate of global positioning system (GPS), P-code acquisition at GPS receiver will be challenging. A variety of methods for increasing the probability of detection and reducing the average time of acquisition have been provided, among which the method of Zero Padding (ZP) is the most essential and the most widely used. The method using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT...
